Issue 07 2022

Keeping you up to date with all the cat action on the streets of Old Town Paphos.

Gaynor Is On The Mend

Gaynor finally went in for hip replacement surgery in August and is well on the road to recovery already.

Despite being unable to go and do the feeding run herself, she is kept up to date with the goings on at each feeding stop by the team of volunteers who have stepped up to help.

Gaynor still needs to rest and allow proper healing which, is a challenge as those who know her, know she is not a “sit at home” person.

Thank you for all the well wishes and kind words received over the past few weeks. Gaynor appreciates them all and hopes to be back on the streets as soon as possible.

The Paphos Cat Lady team is so close to getting every single cat neutered at our feeding colonies. With all the regulars done, we are now focusing on those that have so far eluded capture and any new comers. We got 3 males neutered in August and are pleased to report Tiger, Chad and Franky are all doing very well after their operations.

We would like to thank Tala Cat Park for their ongoing support in getting the feral cats neutered.

Medical Emergencies

August presented only 1 emergency-a case of pneumonia. This allowed us to concentrate on those cats who have been on our medical watch list but didn’t have immediately life threatening issues. With the help and support of Stly Vet Clinic, Pet & Vet and Paphiakos Animal Clinic, we have treated; blocked ears, gingivitis, a hernia and over 10 cases of parasites. All the cats are back in their colonies after a short stay in foster care with only Shouty Baby still needing aftercare for the pneumonia.

Spotlight on Adoption

Filikos (or Filiki as she’s a lady) has found her furever home. Her new human has reported that she has settled in nicely and will continue to receive physiotherapy to try and improve her mobility after her spinal surgery.

We are excited to announce that we are looking at a new opportunity that could allow our supporters to help get some of the street cats adopted either in Cyprus or abroad. There will be many ways you can help. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates as well as our adoptions page on the website.

Volunteers Needed

The Paphos Cat Lady team is looking for volunteers. There is a small but dedicated team of people who support her behind the scenes. There are those running the social media accounts or the website, cat catchers for TNR or vet visits, temporary foster carers and a support network both in Cyprus and the UK. Not forgetting the extended team of professionals who support by supplying food, medical care and advice for the cats.

That being said, we are in desperate need of volunteers to help with the feeding run out on the streets with Gaynor as well as temporary foster carers. If you think you could help, please contact us through Facebook.

Thank You

We would like to thank Geoff and Liz at Petzstuff and Dr Nik and Anna from Pet & Vet for their continued support to the PCL in the feeding and care of the street cats. Thank you to Luanne from Fishing for Felines for her continued support in catching the more elusive feral cats. In addition, a big thank you to Christine and her team at Paphiakos Animal Clinic for the amazing medical care they provide as well as Dawn and her team at Tala Cat Park for their support of the PCL. Thanks also go to Dr Stylianou at Styl Vet Clinic for his work in the TNR programme and to Kelly’s Kittys and K9s for taking time out of her hoilday to meet us and providing medical supplies. As always a huge thank you to those who have generously donated this month.
